Vice President of Human Resources & Development

The Vice President of Human Resources & Development is a member of the Credit Union's senior leadership team and is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of all human resources, talent development, and organizational development functions. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, this position aligns human capital strategies with the Credit Union's mission, values, and strategic objectives.

This role provides leadership and direction for workforce planning, talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, compliance, performance management, and training and development. The Vice President ensures that all human resources and development programs comply with applicable federal and state laws and regulations, and that the Credit Union maintains a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture consistent with the credit union's philosophy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Governance
  • Participate in the Credit Union's strategic planning process, ensuring that human capital, talent development, and succession planning strategies support organizational goals.
  • Advise the Executive Vice President and senior leadership on workforce trends, organizational effectiveness, and human resource risks and opportunities.
  • Serve on Board committees as requested, including the Human Resources Committee, and provide reporting and recommendations as appropriate.
  • Act as a member of the Leadership Team, demonstrating professionalism, sound judgment, and collaborative leadership.
Human Resources Administration & Compliance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain human resources policies, procedures, and practices that comply with all applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Ensure the Employee Handbook is reviewed regularly, kept current, and communicated effectively to staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment law, regulatory guidance, and best practices relevant to credit unions.
  • Oversee accurate maintenance of employee records, documentation, and compliance files, ensuring audit readiness.
Talent Acquisition, Retention & Employee Relations
  • Partner with managers to recruit, select, and retain qualified employees, ensuring the Credit Union is staffed with capable and engaged team members.
  • Counsel managers and employees on the interpretation and application of human resources policies, fostering positive employee relations.
  • Advise management on corrective action and disciplinary matters, recommending appropriate and compliant solutions.
  • Develop and recommend initiatives to enhance employee engagement, retention, and organizational culture.
Training, Learning & Organizational Development
  • Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive training and development programs for employees, supervisors, and management.
  • Assess organizational and individual training needs and align learning initiatives with Credit Union goals and regulatory expectations.
  • Oversee new employee orientation to ensure consistent onboarding, cultural integration, and role readiness.
  • Support leadership development, succession planning, and cross-training initiatives to strengthen long-term organizational capacity.
Compensation, Benefits & Performance Management
  • Develop, implement, and annually review compensation programs, including job descriptions, salary surveys, and pay practices.
  • Maintain the Credit Union’s organizational chart and employee directory.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor the performance appraisal system to support accountability and professional growth.
  • Administer employee benefit programs, including health, dental, life, disability, retirement, and other benefit offerings.
  • Lead open enrollment processes and employee communications related to benefit plans and changes.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on employee benefits, acting as liaison with vendors, carriers, and advisors.
Payroll, Reporting & Risk Management
  • Oversee and perform payroll administration, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Monitor employee data related to leave, benefits, promotions, and terminations, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Administer Workers' Compensation, unemployment, and related insurance claims, including audits and required reporting.
  • Prepare annual benefit statements, retirement plan census data, and related compliance documentation.
Budget & Continuous Improvement
  • Develop and manage the Human Resources & Development department budget in alignment with the Credit Union's overall strategic plan and financial objectives.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to policies, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency, service quality, and risk management.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Represent and promote the Credit Union at external meetings, professional associations, and community events as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have at least a Bachelor's Degree in a related field, along with prior management experience, preferably in the financial services industry.

Assistant Vice President of Consumer Lending

Maine Family FCU is hiring an AVP of Consumer Lending at its Lewiston location.

The AVP of Consumer Lending provides operational and people leadership for the consumer lending department, ensuring strong loan production, sound credit decisions, and regulatory compliance. This role leads, coaches, and develops lending staff; reviews and approves consumer loan requests; and builds effective relationships with lending vendors and partners. Working closely with the VP of Lending, the AVP helps develop policies and procedures that balance risk management with exceptional member service while monitoring economic trends and recommending proactive strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day leadership, management, and support of the consumer lending function.
  • Oversees the configuration and maintenance of the loan origination system while continually seeking more efficient and effective processes and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory, state, federal, and policy requirements. Assist in developing, managing, and maintaining consumer loan policies and procedures.
  • Formulates and maintains a loan procedure manual for the consumer loan department, keeping it up to date with regulations and requirements. Ensures staff training and compliance.
  • Oversees the quality control process and ensures audits are performed in a timely manner, and findings are communicated and addressed.
  • Provides updates, guidance, and coaching to lending staff during regular meetings and at other organized training events.
  • Contributes to the development and refinement of the credit union's lending vision and strategy, working in a team environment focused on member service and closing quality loans in a timely manner.
  • Assists in collecting past due loans, repossessions, and foreclosures.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of general economic conditions or changing trends relating to consumer lending. Construct products, rates, and terms that reflect the marketplace.
  • Performs rate surveys of local competitors and works with the VP of Lending on consumer rate recommendations. Monitors and coordinates the discretionary loan interest rate changes (tied to Prime).
  • Maintains a sustainable loan pipeline that leads to measured results.
  • Develops, assesses, and completes monthly loan reports. Develop procedures and reporting tools to ensure effective information flows through the department.
  • Reviews loan approvals and denials for soundness of conclusion.
  • Defines appropriate limits of authority for consumer loan personnel and ensures adequate understanding of the credit union's loan procedures and policies.
  • Interviews loan applicants, resolves member complaints, and approves or denies loan applications.
  • Assists with all other projects, duties, and administration, as assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties of this job classification.

Supervisory Functions:

  • Effectively directs and supervises assigned employees, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Credit Union policies and applicable laws.
  • Hires, develops, evaluates, disciplines, and, when necessary, terminates employees.
  • Establishes an environment that promotes teamwork and eliminates barriers to effectively working within the Department and across the Credit Union organizational structure.
  • Regularly schedules and conducts department meetings to keep employees current on credit union goals, promotions, products, services, and activities. Encourages participation and open communication.
